Photograph from the 1883 Vanderbilt Fancy Dress Ball album, taken by Jose Maria Mora (Cuban, c. 1847-1926), depicting Jean Turnure (later Mrs. John C. Mallory) costumed as an Egyptian princess. Her costume was described in the New York Tribune: "A heavy white satin robe embroidered in gold with a sweeping train; long, flowing sleeves lined with cloth of gold; a low-cut corsage covered with ancient coins; a golden peacock with spreading wings as a headdress, from which depended a long veil train, fastened with gold chains; bangles, anklets and jewelry [...]"
