Description
A VIEUX PARIS TOILET SET (French, c. 1820) by the Locré, Russinger & Pouyat factory. Decorated with colored floral and gilt decoration against a white ground, The set is comprised of nine pieces:
.1 = tall water pitcher.
.2 = medium sized water pitcher.
.3 = large oval wash bowl.
.4 = small oval wash bowl.
.5a-b - .6a-b = sponge dishes; (a=base, b=insert)
.7a-c - .8a-c = brush holders w/covers, (a=base, b=insert, c=cover).
.9a-b = divided soap dish with cover
The necks of the two water pitchers are shaped into the profile of Napoleon Bonaparte wearing an Egyptian style headdress. The service celebrates the Egyptomania that remained popular under the Bourbon restoration and the reign of Louis Philippe (1830-1848).
