A Pair of Open-Arm Louis XV Style Armchairs

A PAIR OF OPEN-ARM LOUIS XV STYLE ARMCHAIRS (French, late 19th century) attributed to the furniture maker Henry Dasson (French, 1825-1896). Original to Mrs. Vanderbilt’s Sitting Room on the mezzanine level of Marble House. The cartouche shaped back, padded armrests, and seats are upholstered in peach floral damask. The kingwood veneered frames are trimmed with ormolu mounts. The mounts on the knees have a shell and foliate design. The curved seat rail is centered with a foliate shaped mount. The chairs stand on four cabriole legs that end in foliate toe sabots. Together with a matching Louis XV style sofa (PSNC.306.1) it makes up a three piece parlor suite.
