A FLEUR DE PECHE MARBLE MANTEL (French, late 19th century) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons, installed in Alva Vanderbilt’s bedroom on the second floor of Marble House. A large gilt bronze shell design is at the center of the fireplace opening. The mantel is flanked on either side by bronze dore figures of women holding candelabras (PSNC.113.1-.2).
