Description
ONE STERLING SILVER COVERED VEGETABLE DISH (American, 19th century) with bone side handles, an internal compartmental divider, and liner. The circular lid is topped with a cauliflower shaped finial, the front is engraved "Astor Cup / for Schooners / Presented by / Rear-Commodore Vincent Astor / New York Yacht Club / Won by / ‘Vagrant’ / Newport / August 2nd 1922", the side is engraved with the initials "NMH" in a foliate script, the opposite side is engraved with the Rothschild coat of arms. The dish has a gadrooned rim with shell designs. The interior divider has four arms. The divider and liner are engraved with the initials "NMHR" as well as the three helmets from the coat of arms. These helmets are also engraved on the exterior of the bowl.
