Description
A THREE-PIECE LOUIS XIV STYLE PARLOR SUITE (French, c. 1892) from the workshop of Jules Allard et ses Fils. The three piece parlor suite is made up of a sofa (PSNC.451.1) and two matching bergeres (PSNC.451.2-.3) with fully upholstered wing backs. The frames of the pieces are made of carved parcel gilt oak. The sofa stands on eight square tapered legs with foliate decoration connected by shaped cross-stretchers, the bergeres each stand on four legs connected by shaped cross stretchers. All three are upholstered in a green on green cut and voided silk velvet with an Apollo mask design in a reproduction of the original by Prelle & Cie. The upholstery is secured with mercury gilded brass upholstery tacks with cast cherubic masks. The upholstery tacks are placed over a voided velvet tape trim. A green silk knotted fringe hangs from the seat rail of all three pieces.
