Description
A hand-colored genre engraving entitled "A Party Angling" (English, c. 1890) by Sydney E. Wilson (English, b. 1869) after a painting of the same name by George Morland (English, 1763-1804). The print depicts an 18th century fishing party made up of two couples and two servants. A small boat sits on a lake with the members of the fishing party inside. At the bow of the boat a Black liveried servant removes a fish from a fishing pole, next to him are two ladies, the one standing in the pink dress holds the fishing pole the servant is detaching the fish from, next to her are two gentlemen, one of whom stands baiting his line, the other sitting with his line cast has caught a fish, which a white servant at the stern of the boat retrieves with a net. Beneath the image on the bottom right the print is signed "Sydney E. Wilson." The print is housed in a birdseye maple frame.
