Description
A colored mezzotint entitled "Marie Louise" (American, c. 1880) by Samuel Arlent-Edwards (American, 1862-1938) after a painting by Jean Marc Nattier (French, 1685-1766). The subject, Princess Louise Marie of France (French, 1737-1787), the daughter of Louis XV, is depicted at half-length, facing forward. She wears a light blue silk dress with a scoop neckline and white ruffled sleeves. A corsage of three pink flowers is pined to the left side of her dress. The bodice is accented with a pink semi-precious stone. Her white powdered hair is worn in a chignon with pearls and flowers. The print is housed in a gilt-wood frame decorated with an egg and dart band border, a large floral garland topped with a bow along the top, and a floral band along the bottom at center.
