Three-fold Screen

19th century

A THREE-FOLD SCREEN (French, 19th century) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons, Paris. The upper portions of the two end panels are upholstered with brightly colored 17th century crewel embroidery depicting flowers, including roses, tulips and convolvulus. The center panel has a orphrey pane of 17th century needlework divided into six sections with borders of metallic and gold threads depicting the Madonna & child on the upper left and the rest with figures of saints within niches. The lower sections of the three panels are upholstered with floral cut velvet. The reverse of the screen is covered with floral silk upper panels and gold damask lower panels.
