Description
A LOUIS XV STYLE CARVED GILT-WOOD BERGERE A L'OREILLE (French, 19th century) by the design firm Jules Allard and Sons. The molded back is surmounted by a crest border that is carved with flower sprays and follows along the shaped wings of the chair. The wings lead to padded armrests on curved supports carved with foliage decoration. The wide seat sits on a shaped and molded rail carved with trailing flowers and foliage. The chair sits on four cabriole legs with carved flower-heads at the knees and flowering foliage descending to shaped toes overlaid with leaves. The chair is upholstered in late 18th century tapestry, the tapestry design on the seat back depicts a bouquet of flowers in an urn against an oatmeal background.
