Description
A LOUIS XV STYLE CARVED GILT-WOOD BERGERE A L'OREILLE (French, 19th century) by the design firm Jules Allard and Sons. The back of the chair has a molded border surmounted by a tall cresting carved with flower sprays and similarly decorated shaped wings. The chair wings lead to padded armrests on curved supports carved with foliage. The wide seat has a shaped back with molded rails carved with trailing flowers. The chair stands on four cabriole legs with carved flower-heads at the knees and pendant flowering foliage descending to shaped toes overlaid with leaves. The chair is upholstered in late 18th century tapestry fabric with a central design of a bouquet in an urn on an oatmeal ground.
