Description
FIRE TOOL SET (American, 19th century), composed of wrought iron with copper accents. The set is made up of eight pieces: a pair of andirons (.1a-b), a fender (.2), a poker (.3), a pair of tongs (.4a-b), a shovel (.5), a broom (.6), a pair of tool rests (.7a-b), and a grate (.8). The pair of andirons are topped with grotesque animal head finials with bronze rings in their mouths, the bases are decorated with bronze floral embellishments, and the legs have incised designs. The tool rests are shaped like seated heraldic lions. The tools themselves have decorated handles.
