Description
A BUILT-IN WALNUT SECRETARY DESK IN THE RENAISSANCE STYLE (Italian, 1874-1876) by Luigi Frullini (Italian, 1839-1897). The exterior of the fall front is carved with a trompe l’oeil panel depicting Amerigo Vespucci in his studio, this front opens to reveal several small drawers and pigeonholes. Elaborately carved pilasters run up to the carved cornices, featuring owl faces. The whole rests on two large carved griffins sitting on rectangular pedestals. The front panel is signed in script on the lower right corner "Luigi Frullini, Firenze." Located in the library of Chateau-sur-Mer, the installation of this secretary was part of a renovation overseen by Richard Morris Hunt.
