Description
A STATUARY GROUPING DEPICTING ZEUS AND THETIS THE SEA NYMPH, MOTHER OF ACHILLES (French, c. 1910) by the workshops of Jules Allard et ses Fils, Paris, composed of soft French limestone. The grouping depicts Thetis asking Zeus to give the Trojans success in battle, she lies languidly before Zeus, clutching his arm and leg seductively, Zeus is seated with a thunderbolt raised in his hand, drapery swirls about his shoulders, and an eagle sits by his side and gazes up at the god. This statuary group sits on the roofline of The Elms along with PSNC.11329, PSNC.11330, PSNC.11331, PSNC.11332, PSNC.11333, PSNC.11334, and PSNC.11337.
