FOUNTAIN OF HERCULES (Italian, late 19th century) attributed to the Chiurazzi Foundry, Naples, with modern castings made by Skylight Studios (2001). Bronze figures of Hercules battling the Hydra stand atop the central shaft of the fountain. Along the rim of the upper bowl of the fountain are satyrs with weapons pointed inward toward the hydra, and grotesque masks serving as fountain jets. Below, surrounding the central column of the fountain, are sea maidens astride sea horses. The edge of the lower basin is decorated with a chorus of Bacchic revelers.
