A Mahogany Hepplewhite Style Settee

20th century

A MAHOGANY HEPPLEWHITE STYLE SETTEE (American, early 20th century) with an open double shield shaped back, with pierced and scrolled vase shaped splats, curved open arms, and a rectangular stuffed seat. The seat is upholstered with a needlework design of an exotic bird perched in a tree and flanked by flowering branches in hues of blue, green, pink, orange, yellow, and brown. The needlepoint was done by Mrs. McBean’s maid and a similar pattern can be found on PSNC.8577, PSNC.8578, and PSNC.8583.1-.4. The settee stands on four square legs connected by an H-stretcher, the front two legs end in spade feet.
