Description
A Statue of Guanyin (Chinese, 19th century), the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion, made of bronze. They are depicted wearing loose robes and holding a string of pearls, which were added at a later date by the King family of Kingscote. The strand of pearls resembles a Catholic rosary, which liken Guanyin to the Virgin Mary, who is also associated with compassion and mercy in Catholic tradition.
