Description
A PAIR OF POTTERY BOTTLES (Chinese, 19th century) and four-legged cinnabar lacquer stands (Chinese, c. 1900) that were retailed by Bon Marché, Paris. The porcelain bottles are glazed in a spinach green color, have quadrangular bodies, ring handles on the sides, circular necks, and are incised with insects, snakes, reptiles, dragons, and sea creatures. The lacquerware stands sit on four curved feet, have decorations carved in relief, and have a painted bird/phoenix in red, gold, and blue on the top at center. The stands were bought in Paris by Mrs. David King for 19 Francs and 50 centimes, the original Bon Marché label is still adhered to the underside of one of the bases.
