Description
A ROAD COACH "VENTURE" CARRIAGE (American, c.1900) by Brewster & Co. of New York. The coach has black upper quarter panels, white body and boot panels, and a black with red stripping toe board and undercarriage. In 1908 Alfred G. Vanderbilt (1877-1915), a coaching enthusiast, brought to England the Venture along with American trotting horses to service the London to Brighton route. Vanderbilt coached the inaugural run himself to much fanfare. The typical journey from London to Brighton would take about seven hours. The Venture serviced this route from 1908-1914.
