Copy print photograph of (from left to right) Baroness Gertrude Berwind von Boecklin, Alice Grew (devoted friend of the Berwind sisters), and Baroness Edith Berwind von Kleist. The three are seated in the garden of a villa on Lake Geneva, which had been rented by Baroness von Kleist. The Berwind sisters were the nieces of Edward Julius Berwind and Julia Berwind of The Elms, and were frequent visitors there.

Inscription on verso reads "von Kleist, von Boecklin, Geneva"
Note from the Donor: "Baroness von Kleist and Baroness von Boecklin were living together in Geneva following their respective separations from their husbands. The villa was rented throughout the 1930s by Baroness von Kleist who returned to New York during WWII with her daughter Asta and grandson John James de Martino; upon their return following the war, the villa was offered for sale to Baroness von Kleist for a nominal sum. She declined and moved elsewhere."
