Description
Photograph showing 'The Syphax Before Scipio' traditionally attributed to Giambattista Piazzetta (1683-1745). Recent Scholarly research has reattributed this painting to Antonio Molinari (Venetian, 1665-1727) or it was possibly a collaborative effort between the two artists. It is one of a series of four oil on canvas Venetian paintings (Italian, c. 1706) depicting scenes in the life of Scipio Africanus, the Roman General who conquered the North African City of Carthage in 203 B.C. This painting is located in the dining room at The Elms.
