Detail Photograph showing a part of ''Scipio Declining Regal Honours' by Paolo Pagani (1660-1716). It was reattributed in February 2006 to Mattia Bortoloni (Venetian, 1695-1750). It is one of a series of four oil on canvas Venetian paintings (Italian, c. 1706) depicting scenes in the life of Scipio Africanus, the Roman General who conquered the North African City of Carthage in 203 B.C. This painting is located in the hall at The Elms.
