Portrait of James Muhlenberg Bailey

A signed oil on canvas portrait of James Muhlenberg Bailey, 1871 by Daniel Huntington (American 1816-1906). Depicts sitter half length facing front seated in a crimson upholstered armchair in three-quarter view, wearing a black jacket, white shirt with high starched collar and a green and red plaid bow tie. Signed, dated on the arm of the chair, in the lower left: "D. Huntington". The engraved brass plate reads: "James Muhlenberg Bailey 1839-1897 son of Nathaniel Platt Bailey by Daniel Huntington". J.M. Bailey was born at Fordham on Harlem, February 22, 1839. He died at his residence , 77 Madison Ave. NYC February 27, 1897.
