AN OIL ON CANVAS ALLEGORICAL LANDSCAPE (Italian, 17th century) attributed to Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione (Italian, 1616-1670) entitled "Orpheus Taming the Beasts." The painting depicts a large gathering of birds and animals in the foreground at rest listening to a nymph playing a violin seated near center, accompanied by a standing male youth on her right with two satyrs seated at far left and a nymph and satyr at her rear left. The middle ground features an embankment surmounted by other satyrs.
