Portrait of Catherine the Great of Russia

In this portrait Catherine the Great (1729-1796), Russia’s longest-ruling female leader, is depicted seated, with knotted pearls around her neck, holding a book on a table with her right hand, and her left hand resting on her lap, holding a locket with a picture of her husband Peter III. The canvas is housed in a carved Louis XV style giltwood frame.
