PORTRAIT OF MRS. ROBERT STRAWBRIDGE by Philip Alexius De László (Hungarian, 1869-1937). The subject, Mrs. Robert Strawbridge, née Anita Berwind (American, 1875-1942), is depicted looking to the right, her grayish brown hair is loosely curled, her bare shoulders are covered slightly with a diaphanous white scarf clutched by her left hand, a single strand of pearls lays around her neck, the somber background is done in tones of brown, black and orange. It is signed in black script in the lower right corner "P.A. de Laszlo / 1915. II. London.” It is housed in a contemporary giltwood rococo revival frame decorated with acanthus clad C-scrolls and stylized shells.
