Description
"HOMAGE PAID TO CHARLES V BY THE KNIGHTS OF THE GOLDEN FLEECE" (Flemish, c. 1885) by the historical artist Albrecht Frans Lievin De Vriendt (Belgian, 1843-1900). It is a court scene with the infant Charles V (1500-1558) wearing the pendant of the Golden Fleece, seated before an armorial tapestry. A knight of the Order in crimson robe and turban, stands at the right holding a sword, while at the left is the dowager queen and the queen mother, surrounded by attendants and courtiers.
