Description
A pair of Rococo Revival gilded bronze andirons or chenets (French, c. 1900) from the workshops of Bouhon Frères of Paris. Each andiron is in the form of a standing oak leaf and acanthus clad S-scroll accented with acorns and flowerheads above a small horizontal acanthus-clad S-scroll raised on a large foliage scroll front foot. This design is based on a c.1750 scrolling acanthus andiron model by Jacques Caffieri (French, 1678-1755).
