Description
Portrait of Mrs. Theodore P. Grosvenor (1931) by Philip A. De László (Hungarian, 1869-1937). The subject, Mrs. Theodore P. Grosvenor (nee Anita Strawbridge, 1901-1987), is depicted at half-length. She is facing forward with her head turned to the right gazing toward the viewer. She wears a long blue chiffon scarf covering bare shoulders. Her lips are accented with pink lipstick, and her blond shoulder-length hair is gently coiffed. The background is gold and dark brown. The portrait is signed "de Laszlo 1931 XI" in the lower right corner. The portrait is housed in a large giltwood frame that has large carved leaves and flowers in the corners. Mrs. Grosvenor was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Strawbridge of Philadelphia, PA, her mother was a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Berwind. Mrs. Grosvenor spent summers in Newport until her death in 1987.
