A BLUE AND WHITE JAPANESE ARITA VASE OR URN WITH BIRDS AND BRANCHES (Japanese, late 19th century). Mrs. Belmont's memoirs states the vase was presented by the Shogun of Japan when Commodore Perry opened the ports of Japan to Western Commerce. The vase features blue underglaze.
