Dress

circa 1885

Bodice and overskirt are of brown silk with a bright blue vine-like print. Bodice (a) has a silk blue front panel with 12 black cloth covered buttons, 11 eyelets for lace to cinch waist, long sleeves. Overskirt (b) has a place for a bustle in the back. The front has a slit from the bottom to about 3/4" of the way up, the slit is trimmed with blue silk to expose the blue silk underskirt. The top section of the undeskirt (c) is of brown cotton, the rest of it is of blue silk with 5" of pleating at the bottom. Dress belonged to Harriet V. Stanton.
