Description
A cloth doll named Mehetabel "Hetty" Howland Hammett, made by Sarah Matilda Howland Hammett. Doll has a hand-drawn and painted face, with blue eyes and pink lips and cheeks; Doll's body is made of plain weave ivory and tan fabric. Repairs are evident in several locations, including center front and back towards bottom of torso, on right ankle and leg, and around neck. Donor believes doll's head was replaced circa 1920s. Doll also has a leather patch on right hand, and a cloth patch at left toe. Handwritten inscription on back reads: "Mehetabel Howland/Hammett./Born July 4th 1884,/at Newport, R.I."
